TetraBox

Yanko Design presents Designer Ed Chew, who is the creator of the TetraBox lamp, a light object made from taken apart drink cartons that would have just been thrown away. The lamp is made by unfolding the cartons to cut and fold them into hexagonal or pentagonal shapes that he combines to make a sphere or any other desired shape. The overhead spherical lamp casts shadows against the wall. I'm a big fan of lamps like these and also maybe it's just the kid in me that loves shadows projected on the wall.

Exploring the World of Infographics

Chad Hagen Infographic
As a current student I hope to never stop learning because there are still so many facets of the design world that are foreign, fascinating and always evolving. One of those facets is Infographics. Infographics or Information Graphics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge. These graphics contain complex information quickly and clearly. We see infographics in maps, journalism, technical writting and education presentations. This first image is an infographic done by Minneapolis designer Chad Hagen who creates many beautiful infographics with similar style in each design.

Occurrences
I've taken a course on Information Design at UW Stout. But I feel that a semester of such class wasn't quite enough to satisfy my curiosity of  this subject. As someone who is becoming more well versed in print and identity design this idea of information design sometimes eludes me. So many infographics become amazing representations of their information. But don't underestimate the ideation process for a designer in this media. It's easier for us to create graphics, but adding the factor of a graphic that has to showcase easily and quickly understandable information in a stunning graphic wrapper isn't a easy task.

in Ad Design

As I am still working on the design of my resume, it dawned on my that Infographics could be just what I need to add flavor to my resume. I need a design layout that is less colorful that my original resume shown in a past post, but more eye - appealing and brain tingling. It's tricky to add your resume information into a Infographic. But here's an example of someone who succeeded at the task.

WORK IN PROGRESS

Currently I'm thinking up new designs for business cards. This layout is what I have so far. But both my email and portfolio site do not exist yet, but will by the time I need to apply for jobs. What do ya think?

NEW! Toblerone Wedding Invitations

The couple that hired me for the design loved the Toblerone chocolate candy bar and wanted to incorporate the packaging of the product within the invitation. Great idea and sweet bonus for all their invitees. As I'm told all 250 some guests get one toblerone replaced with this packaging instead...that's a lot of money spent on Toblerones! LOL

Crafts!

SO MANY PROJECTS SO LITTLE TIME :-(
All crafty DIY projects shown here can be easily recreated by looking at their tutorials on

I love the idea of repurposing my wine bottles. The only problem would be is
when people come over to visit they would see the amount I consume for decoration.

I want to make a million of these yarn strung balls for decoration.
This project is so easy and great for parties or just everyday decor.

Ever see those expensive capiz shell lanterns. Ever notice how they
look exactly like wax paper? This genius project is so cheap, but
maybe a little time consuming. Can't wait to give it a whirl. This last
DIY project is not found with all the other ones but on

My First Photography Class

The first pictures were taken at the Como Zoo in Minnesota. The lion was an excellent model and quite the camera ham. Most my photography experiments are of animals. Go figure I think I wanted to be a wildlife photographer at some point in my childhood too! This erie last image was done with the classic pinhole camera.
